We Won’t Change the World Alone
Venture capitalist and philanthropist John Martinson has donated $5 million to Northeastern’s honors program, which provides first-year students with unique experiential opportunities to learn both inside and outside the classroom. The newly named John Martinson Honors Program will support enhancing integration with the co-op program, and provide students with additional global experiential learning opportunities.
As a child in Haiti, Karl Alvarez dreamed of becoming a police officer or enlisting in the army. “I have a drive for security,” Alvarez says. Today, he’s turning that passion into a career in cybersecurity as a learner in Northeastern’s Associate to Master’s Degree Pathway for Technology program, an initiative supported by a grant from the Akamai Foundation.
Northeastern is elevating its commitment to ensuring that students in its communities can access a quality education, regardless of financial need. Beginning this fall, the university will award up to 10 full tuition, room and board Oakland Opportunity Scholarships annually to seniors graduating from an Oakland Unified School District high school and Pell Grant-eligible residents of Oakland, California.
To help catalyze Northeastern’s fundraising campaign, Experience Powered by Northeastern, trustee Alan McKim is giving $25 million to establish eight new endowed chairs in President Joseph E. Aoun’s name.

Northeastern kicked off its largest and most ambitious fundraising campaign yet, Experience Powered by Northeastern. Over the next five years, the campaign aims to raise $1.3 billion in philanthropic support.
