“Bringing Communities Together, One Cup at a Time” Featuring Martell Mason, SSH’07

Meet Martell Mason, a 2007 graduate of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Beginning as a Starbucks barista while taking classes at Northeastern, Martell fell in love with the coffee industry. After working as a coffee importer and exporter in Turkey, Martell wondered, “How can I make coffee more accessible to underrepresented communities?” In 2021, he returned to his native Detroit to launch the Sepia Coffee Project. Today, he’s not only making an impact in his community, but also giving representation to coffee roasters around the world. Learn more about Martell’s long and diverse history in the coffee industry, the goals of his Sepia Coffee Project, and how you can support his efforts.
