A Northeastern Pathway Program Helps Secure a Student’s Future
As a child in Haiti, Karl Alvarez dreamed of becoming a police officer or enlisting in the army. “I have a drive for security,” Alvarez says. Today, he’s turning that passion into a career in cybersecurity. And through Northeastern’s Associate to Master’s Degree Pathway for Technology (A2M4Tech) program supported by a grant from the Akamai Foundation, Alvarez is well on his way to achieving his goal.
Alvarez is earning his associate degree at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, and through the A2M4Tech initiative, he’ll next pursue his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northeastern. The innovative program provides learners with scholarships and wraparound services such as career advising, which helps open doors to in-demand tech jobs and also diversifies the talent pipeline. Everything in the program has been “on point,” says Alvarez.
